Hello. I'm Patty MacDuffie, creator, owner and administrator of Computer Haven.  I am self-taught on the subject of computers, but I had lots of help from friends and mentors.  Although I had worked on computers at various jobs going back to the early 70's, I didn't own my own personal computer until 1995. 

At that time I bought myself a computer with a reputation for good quality.  Nevertheless I had trouble with the machine, which prompted me to begin to learn everything I could about these wonderful, and often frustrating, machines.  I found some terrific newsgroups and began reading and asking questions.  I bought huge manuals and read them all the way through.

ln 1997 I started my own business doing tech support for home users.  I didn't know a great deal back then, but I knew more than most people and I loved working with folks and helping them out with their problems.  I continued studying and learning, and before long I was answering questions in the newsgroups instead of asking them.  In 1999 I was recognized for my contributions to those newsgroups.  I have been awarded MVP status from 1999 - 2006.

I'm very much looking forward to helping out as many of you as I can, and making this a truly friendly place to learn.  I hope you enjoy it!
