As most probably know I am semi-retired but still work running the photo department at a local Walgreens store. The local elementry schools use us for printing photo books that the 5th grade students author. Well I came up with an idea that I am in the process of setting up. I am setting up a site where each student would be able to have their own one page website. As far as hosting it is no big deal as I have unlimited storage and bandwidth through my hosting. Once I set up the teachers as site admins I would not even notice the usage other than having to teach them how to be admins on the thing. The software package I'm using (XOOPS) already has a free module that allows any registered user to have a web page through the system. The site module also includes a full blown editor that is better than we have here. It is true what you see is what you get. The editor is sort of what you would have in a word processor such as Office Word. If it works out I think that it could be a total hoot! How cool would it be for an elementry school kid to be able to say that they have their own web site? I think that this could be real fun!

Jay You're doing a good thing. The best of luck with it. I'm sure the kids will love it.

Sounds like a really good idea Jay and as the kids are the future of technology I'm sure it would be appreciated in giving them such help.

Thanks, My main concern is if the teachers will be able to use it as I am in no way associated with the school. We shall see what we shall see.

While I think it's a great idea, I am not sure I'd do it. I see horrific liabilities if someone miss uses it. I would talk to your insurance company and see what they thinkg.

Actually Pete that is a valid concern but, I believe, covered. It will be a 'closed' site with access only for the teachers and students. When done all a casual visitor will see, if they even find it, would be the log-on as it will be set up through XOOPS security that only registered members are able to see any menus or access any features.
Registration will also be totally closed as the teachers will be admins and will set up the student's accounts. After the setup I will be hands off except fore software update and feature changes.

I tell you jay with what goes on in the schools today, I'd think twice and then 4 more times. I'll it takes is one kid posting about another and something can go bad. Your hosting you may be liable.

Oh, I see where you are coming from now... I will have a document releasing me of any liability as to site content.

Yes, since I will not actively admin the site, I will insist on a disclosure to where I am not responsible for content. I will probably just copy the same disclosure agreement from my hosting and just replace 'Green Geeks' with 'jaylach.com'.
