Good evening all, I have an interesting problem for which I need some help.
After booting up my Windows 10 PC, I discovered a box in the lower right-hand corner of my screen with the message "software has been downloaded, install now, install later". I have no idea what this software is or where it is located. Since I am basically paranoid I will not install the software. I click on install later and the message goes away. However the text box remains. I have tried numerous ways to delete that box with no success. Each time I reboot the window and message reappear.
Has anyone else had this issue? Where can I find the location of this "download"? I have already looked in my download folder and have even checked in Revo-Uninstall. I simply cannot find any such download.
Right now I am looking at a white rectangle directly above the clock that is on the taskbar. I want to get rid of this fearing that it is a malware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As ever my thanks in advance.

Do you get any further info if you right click on the notification?

No, Jay. There is no other response with right or left click. The box just remains.

Mayhaps others can offer more but I really cannot give much advice.
This could be an update notice for a software package that you have installed or it could be a bad guy. At this point there is no way for me to make a determination.
If you look at Programs and Features in your Control Panel do you see anything that is listed as an updater? If so please report back as to the name of any such updater.
Ahhh, If you just hover over the icon does any 'tool tip' appear?

No Jay, nothing is listed as an updater. I pretty much recognize everything there. And no, No tool tip when the cursor goes over the box.
Thanks for you help.

I haven't really given any useful input. I would sit back and see what some others say.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier.
Boots, I'm not sure how to post a screen shot. I'm trying to figure it out.
Peter, I use AVG Pro and Windows Defender.

In Windows 10 use the Snipping Tool to make a capture, then post the picture file.

Both AVG Pro and Windows Defender are full AV packages in Windows 10. Defender is no longer just anti-malware like it was in Windows 7. If you want to run AVG make sure that Defender is disabled. Is the white box associated with any of the notification area icons or does it just stay after you decline the download. If it is left over after the decline does clicking the 'Show Desktop bar remove it? Attachment:

Can you post a screenshot of the actual download dialog?

I think that Defender is automatically disabled when AVG Pro is installed but can't be sure. I also do not know if AVG Pro includes a firewall so it might be a good idea to also check the Windows firewall settings also.

AVG pro *should* register as the provider of antivirus and antispyware and therefore disable Defender, but if it didn't you need to disabled Defender -- or, reinstall AVG Pro after insuring that it is the latest version and supported on Windows 10. -steve

Windows defender is turned off. Apparently AVG took care of that issue.
It apparently has nothing to do with the task bar or its icons. It just stays after clicking on "install later".

Does that box survive a reboot or shutdown?

If this download has already taken place, where could it be stored on the PC? I've checked Programs and Features and Revo-uninstall. I have also checked my download folder with no success.

@Patty: If I get things right a re-boot will bring back the download option after which the box returns.
@joemonte : If an actual download happened which I doubt as you have declined it would probably be in a temp folder, not your normal download folder.

Reboot your machine. Go to a Run box and type %temp% and hit enter. Ctrl+A to select all, then hit delete. It will complain about a couple of items, just skip those and let it delete everything else. Leave your temp folder window open. Then go handle the download notification as you have been doing. See what appears, if anything, in the Temp directory, and let us know. You could then delete that new entry and see what happens.
if that doesn't clear it up, boot into safe mode with networking. To do this, go to your Run box (Cortana, really), type msconfig and select the top entry, System Configuration. Go to the Boot tab, choose Safe Boot. Actually do it without networking at first. Restart. See what happens. Then go back into System Config and check the Network box under safe boot and restart again. See what happens. Let us know the results of all of this.

OK, Pattie. I tried the first suggested method. Everything was deleted except "7zS56CB". I then clicked on install later. Nothing happened in the temp folder.
I rebooted the PC and the box reappeared as usual. I opened the temp file and found the following entries: LuUpdater I think this a Logitech thing. WINSUA_2.15 1001 tried Google...no results WINSUA_2.15 1002 same result Microsoft.Explorer Notification
I'm about to try your other suggestion.
I have discovered that LuUpdater is a Logitech updater and wonder if this is from them. I am attempting to find out before I install anything.

You can right-click on any of those files and choose Properties. Usually the Details tab will tell you who it belongs to.

OK, Pattie I tried your second suggestion using safe mode and safe mode with networking. In both cases the box did not appear.
However, as soon as I rebooted normally...there it was.
I think I'm going to install the software hoping its logitech or Windows updater. I can always delete the drive and uninstall from my backup.

I have to ask if you have anything Logitech; mouse, keyboard, etc.. If you do not have any Logitech hardware do not proceed.
To be honest, before allowing the install, I would create a new system image while still keeping the previous image. If having two images is not possible please, at least, create a new restore point.

Before you do any installing, go back to the LuUpdater file in the temp directory. Right-click it, choose properties and see who it belongs to!
