Microsoft used to have a nifty password strength tester here:
https://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-s ... ecker.aspx

That link no longer works and I have been unable to find a new one. Anyone have a link to the Microsoft Password Tester, if they still have one?
Thanks, Acadia

It would seem that it is gone or at least I can't find it.

However give me a bit of time and I MAY have a solution for you...

OK, 25 minutes IS a bit of time...

It is crude and has to be reloaded (refresh will not work) for each run but is a start. At this point you have to click within the input window before entering the password but the basic code works. Doing a reload is not a big issue, just go to the address bar and click to where nothing is highlighted and hit Enter.

Jay, I REALLY appreciate the time that you took on this. Gosh, please don't spend this much time on me again unless you are really that bored or I am begging for help. But this fix, or whatever, is too complicated for this simple mind. I have refreshed the page, allowed SilverLight, and nothing works but that IS OK. I have many other password checking sites at my disposal but I always liked the MS best, it was always so simple and easy to use. Why is MS killing such a precious webpage like this? I had believed for the past few years that MS finally was getting serious on security! :dunno:

No worries Acadia. It was a first time playing with a freebee from Microsoft called Small BASIC. It is a programming language that I've been meaning to look at anyway as the syntax is much more similar to what I used when I used to do a lot than that of Visual BASIC. The time was nothing as I only spent about 20-25 minutes on the thing. Plus I had fun.

Don't know why it didn't work for you, works fine here. You DO have to click within the text window before input. From there you just type in the password and hit Enter.

LOL! And here I was planning on using you for a Guiney Pig... errr, I mean beta tester if I decided to expand the thing.

Actually, as is, it is useless but is a start. It just does not have enough checks yet. It only checks for character types. It does not look at length at all. Right now F7c! would be considered very strong which, of course, it is not.

Thanks, Stephen. Yes, I have known about that site for years, along with a couple of others, but MS was simpler, ESPECIALLY for newbies.
