Win 7 Desktop 64 bit. I have both my mouse and keyboard wired. They freeze shortly after startup. I have to shut down with the button and start up again. After that it seems fine. Started about a week ago. Happened last 3 out of 4 times
Checked Device Mgr and nothing there. Tried to update the drivers but it said everything was up to date. Any thoughts

Couple questions.
What is your anti-Virus?
Do you have your anti-Virus AND Malwarebytes Pro both running at the same time?
Probably means nothing, just shooting in the dark here,

I doubt that it has anything to do with the mouse/keyboard unless they have become faulty. To proof that try another mouse/keyboard if available. Use different USB ports. If currently using front ports switch to back ports. Front ports tend to be a little more flakey than back. Point is that you want to connect to a different USB controller and going from front to back or back to front would assure that. If the port switch works you then need to remove the USB controllers in Device Manager and re-boot to allow Windows to re-install. When removing controllers you will lose the mouse on one of them. You will have to re-start then. I assume that you have removed power from the wall to do a total shutdown. LOL! Of course power down before unplugging.

USB ports can be strange, especially front ports for some reason. I have a USB card reader that will only work in 2 of my 4 front ports. I should say it works in 2 of three as my Wireless mouse/keyboard is in one. While I can't prove I suspect that front ports are under-powered in a lot of cases. One of the reasons that I suspect that front ports tend to be under-powered is that the port that will not run the card reader is on the same controller/hub as the mouse dongle. I have seen this on a lot of mother boards.

The mouse and keyboard have always been plugged in the back.
You're right about the front usb ports being flaky
