I have cable internet at a pretty high speed. The way my system is set up I am pretty much using a wired connection for internet but also have a wireless connection. I am running this through a D-Link wireless router. Right now the wired connection is doing internet with the wireless doing my printer. If I unplug the wired connection the wireless picks up the internet. This is a laptop.
I guess what I'm really wondering is, if even possible, if I had both the wired connection and the wireless connection both doing internet at the same time would I see an internet speed increase. My instinct is that the answer would be no as to an increase in speed as the throughput is still throttled by the cable modem.

No, you'd not see any increase. Nice thought, but no. -steve

Thanks for confirming my thought, Steve.

Nope, as Steve has said.
Although both network connections would be active, only one will be doing the sending/receiving of packets

Do you folks remember the days of ISDN? I think you had two 54k modems (dialup), that were combined to give the 128kbps speed. Is that what you are thinking of, Jay?

Yes I do, Patty, although I never used the setup. Basically yes, that was along the lines of what I was thinking.

Only one active external IP address is maybe what you mean. I meant in terms of browsing the internet. Only one connection will do that, it won't be load balanced across the two NICS.

Got you. I agree you can only use one network adapter at a time.
