How do I best move data from my daughter's old laptop to a new one. The old one runs Win10 Pro and the new one runs Win10 Home. I was planning to copy and paste all data from the Documents, Pictures, Downloads, Music and Video folders on the old into the corresponding folders on the new computer. I will install her programs from their respective media. Are there any other folders/files that I need to bring over from the old laptop to the new? And is there a better/easier way to do this besides copying and pasting the folders?

You could always just copy everything to a flash drive and port that way. You won't be able to copy/paste unless the systems are both on a network with the desired folders shared.

Also copy the 'Desktop' and 'Favorites' folders out of the 'User' folder.

You will probably also want to export emails unless email is done via web based. Personally I also like to export coolies.

I'm thinking you may have meant "cookies" here. :-D

Alternatively, Gerry, if the old and new PC are both logged in using a Microsoft Account, you can enable Sync in Account/Settings...

For files to be copied over, Jay has the choices covered, but I'll add another - OneDrive. You can add the various folders to be synchronized via OneDrive on both PCs.

Sigh... Spell checking isn't much help when you spell the wrong word correctly... ;) Yes, I meant 'cookies'.

Thanks, Jay and Steve. I hadn't thought about cookies.
