Incredimail is currently my default e-mail. I would like to change it to (Outlook) Hotmail. Thank you in advance.

Incredimail is an email client.
Outlook.com is an email address.
To use your Outlook.com email in another program (client), you need to have one -- Windows Live Mail, for example, then set this as the default email *program* either from within Windows Live Mail (on the Mail options/General tab -- at the bottom) or by setting "Default Programs" via Control Panel (this procedure varies by operating system version). In Windows 7 you can select the default programs by going to Control Panel/Default Programs. In XP, if I recall correctly, it was Start/Set Program Access and Defaults.

Well, Hotmail is also an email client, really, just a webmail client. It can be used to read email from other addresses than Hotmail.com or Outlook.com. What is your email address? Just the domain part. (The part that comes after the @ sign.)

No, I would not call Hotmail an email client (program) -- it is web based email. The question was about making outlook.com the default email. I assumed "program" and that can't be done if any web based mail service is how you access mail and no email client program is installed or in use.

Understood. But one does use the Hotmail interface to read email, so it is a web-based client. Hotmail (Outlook) can be used to read one's other email addresses, hence my question to him about what his email domain is. He also might be looking at opening an Outlook.com email account - I cannot tell what exactly Vic is asking, so I was giving him other options. Your response was correct, I'm just not sure what he was asking for.

Of course, you are correct. ;-)
I should have used the word "program" to refer to a locally installed program to handle email.
In my mind, "client" means installed local program. The web browser is not a client to me. :-) Ah, terminology!
And, yes, I'm not quite sure what the actual desire is, either.

My e-mail address is @hotmail.com. When I try to e-mail a link it goes to Incredimail. I don't want to use Incredimail. I want to use outlook. Also I would like to transfer my contacts from Incredimail to outlook. When I try to set Windows Live Mail as my default e-mail then click on e-mail link it still goes to Incredimail.

Export your contacts from Incredimail to a comma-delimited text file. Then import that into Outlook. Then uninstall Incredimail.

Also, Vic, what version of Outlook are you running? 2010? 2013? You can use a setting in Outlook to make it the default email client. Or, you can also use Windows 7 or 8 to set default programs.

When I scroll to the bottom of Outlook it says Microsoft 2013. When I went to the default programs in Windows 7 Outlook is not there. I clicked on Windows Live and Windows Live 2011 came up with none of my contacts.

Do you mean Outlook.com? Are your contact visible on Outlook.com when you click on "People" at the top of the page when you click the down arrow next to the word Outlook in the upper left?

"Clicked on Windows Live" means what? Have you set up your Hotmail (Outlook.com) email in Windows Live Mail 2011? When open Windows Live Mail, are you also signing into your Microsoft Account (the @hotmail address)?

You cannot set Outlook.com which is accessed via the web browser as the default program for handling mailto: links which your system currently has defined as Incredimail. You can set Windows Live Mail to be the default program.

Yes, you can't use webmail for email links. Very unfortunate. You'd think they could find a way to make that work!

In default programs I clicked on Windows live Mail to make it my default e-mail. When I went to a web page to send the link it went to Windows Live Mail 2011. I looked for contacts and there were none. I did not yet uninstall Incredimail yet. Could that be the problem?

I just pasted a link in the body of the e-mail in Outlook and had no problem sending the message. With Incredimail there was no problem sending the link direct. I travel a lot now and I don't want to install Incredimail on every computer that I check my e-mail with. I still can't find any contacts in Windows Live Mail 2011.

No, you have to do some sort of export/import to get your contacts into Windows Live Mail. But you're still going to have the problem of traveling. Seems to leave things at outlook.com would be your best bet. You just have to copy and paste links, as you said.

And, again, are you signed into Windows Live Mail?

Why, by the way, are you using Windows Live Essentials 2011 instead of Windows Essentials 2012?

Let's assume that you do not have any contacts on Outlook.com in people.
Your contacts are in the Incredimail address book.
Export them: http://forums.incredimail.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3068

Then, go to Windows Live Mail.
Select Contacts.
Select Import (from the toolbar)
Select Comma Separated Values (.csv)
