Right click the folder in the lower part of the left hand pane and select "Show in Favorites" If it already in selected as a Favorite, but does not appear, select "Remove from Favorites" and then select "Show in Favorites"

Stephen,
Uncheck and check didn't work (a couple of tries). Stranger than strange...and it's terribly inconvenient being all the way at the bottom, instead of the top.
Thank you.

Saw a solution that works for many people, but it's not working for me: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\outlook.exe" /resetnavpane
I then removed the quotes and deleted the space, so it looks like this. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\outlook.exe/resetnavpane I tried it w/(x86) and without. My outlook.exe files appear to be in this location, but I must be formatting incorrectly. because the error says C:Program files cannot be found.
Where did I make a mistake? Thank you.

Where did you enter this? In the run box, I assume? Just type "outlook.exe /resetnavpane" without the quotes and hit enter. That's a space after .exe and before the / (forward slash).

Yes, MacDuffie, of course! The simplicity of OO 2010.
This didn't work, either. What the hell is going on with my Faves?
Thank you.

What didn't work? What happened when you hit enter after entering the command? Did the pane reset, but you still couldn't get Sent items to go up top? Or did it not reset at all?

The program looks like it resets, (like blinking) but only one folder is in there. I've clicked through every folder, none of which are marked, and no other folder than Inbox occupies that spot or can be moved into that spot. Outlook is doing "something," when I reset and when I check or uncheck Favorites, but no folder actually changes location.
Thank you.

It is probably displaying at its default settings, and every time you "reset" it, it is also going to its default settings. As with many Outlook problems, it might be coming from a corrupted profile. I would try creating a new Profile. People get scared of creating new profiles in Outlook. It is not like creating a new profile in Windows. You don't lose any data, you don't get a new blank .pst file. All your stuff is still there, you just now have the option of opening in a different profile name.
The default profile is Outlook (Outlook.pst). You could call your new profile Nancy (Nancy.pst). Initially I would tell it to always ask which profile to use. Then when you go to open Outlook, you can chose which profile. You can then test the Nancy profile and see if that fixes things. If it does and you want to stay with the Nancy profile, you can then make it the default profile and it won't ask each time.

I didn't do it correctly, or maybe I did, but I could only choose a default, not have it ask me.
My folders are in worse condition - with me trying to work - and all the folders on top - Nancy, Archive, and one more, on right click had the option to add to Faves. Considering their position and the look of OL, I thought they were already in Faves. I'll try it later when I'm not preoccupied.
Thank you.

MacDuffie,
You want me to go to Account Settings and Data Files, right? That's what I did the first time, where you have to pick one default. On opening, it ended up with the old file below Nancy.pst, so I had to go through two sets of files to have anything to move around. And Sent, which is in position three, didn't move to position two when I checked Move to Faves.
I think I'm remembering correctly. That's why I backed out quickly - it was more work than less.
Thank you.

Stephen,
I can't work with that page. I can send mail to myself, but I can't set up another email account (it keeps failing) and it looks like both steps are necessary. Are they?
In the new profile - Sent is in the second position. Is that what we want to see? Is it that way by default? I just deleted it - so I hope it told you/MacDuffie something.
Thank you.

Nancy: I fail to understand what you are referring to in setting up another account and how that is failing. The steps are: 1. Create a new profile. 2. Set up your email account(s) and use the existing data file as the folder location.
Sent is in the 2nd position where? Are you able to place folders in the Favorites section?

Your instructions have me create a profile by setting up email first. Did you look? Email account failed because I didn't copy POP settings first.
Without setting up email, the order of folders on left hand Upper side is Inbox, then Sent. I'm trying to put Sent in the second position, after Inbox. It's already there, without being designated as a favorite. When I mark it, I don't see any difference. There is a dimensionality when it's marked. When I mark any other default folder, it doesn't move into Faves.
I have no other personal - non-default - folders in the new profile, so I did something wrong.
Don't yell at me when I don't get something simple - sometimes I can grasp the really difficult stuff. (Just kidding - I know you are not yelling at me.)
Thank you.

Glad you know I'm not yelling. I feel your frustration. At this point, my recommendation is that you go back to the original profile, if you have not already. Then, please do a screen capture (the built in Snipping Tool in Windows is very good for this -- open snipping tool, make a box around your Outlook left hand side showing folders and favorites. I don't need to see your message list or messages, then save that image as a jpg file.) and upload the image to here or send it to me as a private message. I would like to understand what you are seeing. -steve

Favorites view I is open/Clients Folders go 100+ spaces down and is always open. View II is what it looks like with Clients closed. It's tedious to scroll all the way to the bottom every time I need to look at sent mail. Anything that I can do to help, of course. You can also see what I mean by 'dimensional," when I look at Personal Folders and Inbox. Thank you. Snipping tool is great - thank you for the tip. Favorites view Attachment:

Hi, Nancy, The snapshots show that your Favorites are not even visible in your Outlook Navigation pane. You are viewing all folders, not the view for Mail. Favorite folders won't be visible in this view. First, click the icon for Mail view at the bottom of the pane so that you are not looking at all folders. (Or, as in the image above, the mail icon is at the top of the list with Folders being an extra icon) In your image: Then - On the ribbon, select view and then the icon for Navigation Pane. There is a check box to show Favorites. Make sure that it is checked. Instructions can be found here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/7360/out ... tion-pane/-steve

Oh, for heaven's sake - this would be hysterical, except it took about 20 minutes longer than it should have.
I have no idea how you determined all that you did with that one screenshot, but you are so very good. Considering how much trouble I had finding View, (the instructions don't say the View Tab) I can't possibly imagine how I undid Favorites in the first place.
Very nice job, Stephen. Thank you!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Basically, in your image, I see the top level "Personal Folders" and "Archive Folders" with branches underneath. These are visible when you are in Folder View instead of Mail View. -steve
