I've done this a few times before, but darned if I can remember what opened the ISO file to burn it to a DVD. Does Windows do that, or do I have to use a third-party program?

Windows can do it natively:

Agreed that Windows can do it and does a fine job but I have one complaint. It seems that Windows always burns at the max speed the DVD/CD is capable. Does it matter? I don't know but I don't run my car's engine at red-line and I don't burn at the max speed.

I still use an 'ancient' gem of a program for burning ISO files called Micro Burner version 4.

If you chose to try this utility go to the 'Show' tab and select 'ISO creator/burner'. You would find such features under the 'File' tab then ''Advanced settings'. I'm not saying that this is any better than Windows ISO routines but I DO like to have some control. ;) It also has the nice feature of being a single file stand alone program that takes no install and can even be ran from a flash drive on any system.

Thanks for the link you gave Steve. I never knew that you could just double click on the ISO file to open the Windows ISO burner. I've always right clicked and selected the option to burn. Hmmm, just tried the double click method and prefer the right click. Still a thanks as I didn't know about the double click. :)

Thanks for the information, Steve and Jay. I didn't know about the Microsoft ISO link either.

As it turns out, when I right-clicked the ISO file (which was the Windows 10 beta), the context menu reminded me that I have Roxio Creator on this computer. I rarely use it so had forgotten about it. It did the job very well and I've just installed Win 10 on a new partition.

Glad that you got it going Gerry.

I'm curious... On the right click of the ISO file did you also have the option for Windows ISO burner? The only reason that I ask is that I've heard that some burning packages will disable Windows burning features. I would just be interested in if Roxio still allows the selection of the Windows routines.

No, the only burn choice is "Burn with Creator." The first listing in the context menu is "Load into new emulated drive," and I don't know what that means. It is bold faced, the other choices are not.
