5 month old SanDisk Ultra II. My desktop started to get screen freezes during startup and sometimes later on. I had to hold in the OFF button usually twice to get it to start up again. I tried re-imaging to an earlier time but that didn't solve the problem. Finally, the other day, instead of a screen freeze I got nothing, just a black screen. So, taking a guess, I removed the SSD and hooked up the HDD it replaced and I'm back in business and it looks like my SSD is defective. My question is: are the latest back up images I made with the SSD (Macrium and IR) corrupt in any way because of the SSD problem? I'd like to update the HDD from last August.

The backup should be okay. If there were corrupt files, they would have been backed up, but I suspect that there shouldn't be any problems.

I can't really say as to if the images could be corrupted due to an impending issue with the SSD. I'd go with the HDD and create a new image. Then I attempt to restore the image you want. If it fails you have the new image to restore. <edit> LOL! Steve, quit typing when I'm typing... or should that be the other way around?

Check SanDisk's website to see if the have and SSD tools to check the drive out, also it should be under warranty if only 5 months old.

Well, it may not be the SSD at fault after all. Near the end of making a back up image it froze up again displaying a lot of gibberish on the screen. I suppose there's lots of possibilities of what may be the cause. Fortunately, I have the ultimate remedy coming this week in the form of a Velocity Micro Z25.

Removed it and went back to the HDD and no problems the last 2 days. I am thinking about returning the SSD to SanDisk an am wondering if I should install it as a secondary drive, reformat it and send it back empty.

Yes, you should format the drive.

Do you have a working system image of the drive? If so you could try restoring an image to see what happens. If you have the ability, such as an external drive dock, I would connect the SSD to the working system and see if it is recognized. If so I would use Drive Management to take it down to the entire thing being unallocated space. I would then try to restore a drive image backup. If the above fails return it for a replacement after formatting. <Edit> Dang it Steve! I thought that I told you to quit typing while I was doing the same... </edit>
