I have a person in my apartments that has internet but no computer. The Internet is for his TV.

The issue is that every time he turns off his TV the wireless is lost when the TV is turned back on and he has to reset the modem/router. The TV was bought reconditioned.

Does this sound more like an issue with the TV where it may need a firmware update or more likely an issue with the modem/router? My 'gut reaction' is that there is a hardware flaw in the TV as I would assume there was not this issue when the TV was new. Of course that is not necessarily a fact...

I just have no experience with these smart devices and have no clue. I DO have a Blu-ray player in my bedroom that has wireless but don't use that aspect. Shoot, since I have a computer in the bedroom, I really don't use the thing at all.

I just don't want to start throwing out advice when I don't know squat about these devices. Would it be wise to advise checking for a firmware update for the TV as a start?

It could be a problem at either end. It may be hard to diagnose, but try connecting another device to the router wirelessly and see if the same behavior happens when disconnecting by powering down and reconnecting by powering back up. If the same thing happens, suspicion would be pointed at the router. If there's no problem, I'd lean towards blaming the TV.

I'll see what I can do as to connecting another device. I was a bit surprised when it dawned on me that the only things wireless I have are my 2 tablets. Even my laptop is wired unless I take it somewhere. I'll see if he will give me his wireless access and 'un-wire' my laptop. He lives directly below me so I would not even need to take the laptop to his place. Even if I took the laptop to his place he would still have to give me the access code... ;)
