It seems that every time I perform a Windows 10 update, my computer will begin to lock up when left unattended. So then I must go into Device Manager and see what device might be causing this.

So my computer locked up during the night, and these are the devices that my computer was allowed to turn off via Power Management in order to save power:
- Under USB Controllers, the 2nd Generic Super Speed USB Hub
- Under Human Interface Devices, both the 5th & the 7th USB Input Devices

How do I determine exactly what these Hubs and Devices are so that I can maybe do further troubleshooting?

And why do you suppose Windows 10 frequently resets these and other devices? Very frustrating.

The hub could be internal or external. Each hub controls a pair of USB ports.

The 'Human Interface Devices' could be just about anything. Even my USB TV tuner shows as one.

The only way I can think of to figure out exactly what is what would be to disconnect them one by one to see what goes away in Device Manager.

Thanks, Jay. I don't look forward to disconnecting each of my many USB devices. But now I remember something David taught me months ago on how to determine what most of the USB devices are, so this may help me.

He said do the following:
In Device Manager right click on the USB device, then click Details, then click Properties, then under Property click Bus reported device description. At that point you should be able to see what the device is (e.g., keyboard, weather station, LaserJet printer). However, in other cases the description is not that helpful (e.g., USB receiver).

But at least this should be a good start in trying to isolate my troublesome USB devices.

The download link is found at the bottom of the page, note that if your system is 64bit you'll need the x64 version.
I recommend you take a few minutes before running it to read the full page (skipping the version history that takes up half the page!).

Another thought would be to check your motherboard or manufacture website for updated drivers, particularily looking for updated chipset and/or USB drivers.
