Hi all, I've had this Hotmail account for 10+ yrs. Even though I don't log in a lot, I tried again today and it's next to impossible to prove I am who I say I am. I had asked to be reminded to change password so the process made me change password. Then I had to ask for a phone call code, this was asked of me twice so far and the best I get to is my Hotmail info page, never to the Inbox. Now they request me to install an app that only an IPhone can use and all I have is a tracfone.

Granted the security has been enhanced but even I, the user, cannot get in to my Inbox.

Is there a way for a real human being to get into their own Hotmail Inbox?

Thanks for any help....katy

Sorry Katy I can't help you there. I have a Hotmail account and have had it for years but get the emails in my Windows Live Mail.

I've never had to try to recover it as it's used quite often and now I have my Windows 8.1 machine that is run through a Hotmail account.

I expect one of the others will be able to help you out but it might be that you have to set up a new account, don't take my word for that though. :)

Thanks Joan, I am able to log in with my Hotmail account and new password in the IE browser site login.live.com. However, there is no link
to Inbox. The only page that comes up is Microsoft account, columns on the left side are: Overview, Edit name, Account aliases, personal info,
password, security info, close account, Notifications, Recently Activity, Permissions and Billing. None of these lead to Inbox.

Does anyone know if Hotmail account holders can access their Inbox via a browser anymore, in W8?

Thanks, Katy

My Hotmail account is viewed through the Outlook.com link on the MSN homepage. Takes me right to the Inbox.

www.hotmail.com should redirect to something.mail.live.com as will www.outlook.com *after* you authenticate to login.live.com.

If you are ending up at account.live.com it is because you are being asked to review and update your information and security.
You do not need to do the authentication method that requires an app. You can set up, and I recommend it, to have a text sent to your mobile when logging in from a new device. You can make a computer or computers known/trusted devices so that you can log in without needing the 2 step authentication.

Since we are on the subject of Hotmail, is anyone having very slow response on their Hotmail email loading, deleting, etc.? I am here,
and have been for a couple of weeks. But I am beginning to be suspicious of my Ethernet port (on motherboard), hence my asking
here.

Patty, Hotmail (outlook.com) has been working for me with no issues, I don't save any of the emails on there so there isn't much to load. Make sure you empty out the Junk too, that may be causing a slow response.

Once in a while Hotmail will hang a little on me but not often.

I've not been having any issues, get my Hotmail either through my Windows Live Mail or on my Nokia Lumia 520.

Well I found the cause of at least some of the issues. Adding a couple of Anti-tracking add-ons to Internet Explorer. Geez...
Damned if you do, and damned if you don't. :( One was specifically aimed at keeping Google from tracking me. The other, more general.

Glad you found out the problem Patty, you made me laugh with your comment about being damned whichever way you went. :rofl2:

Yes, Hotmail is still quite valid, been using it for over 10 years now. Microsoft keeps making it smoother as the years go by. I also have Yahoo and Gmail accounts. All of them tend to slow down and get clunky from time to time but eventually they all go fast again.

Well mine isn't. It is still quite slow to display an email. I just did a reset of IE, and it marginally better, but still slow loading.
I'm not having the issue on other sites. I believe this is coincident with the upgrade to IE 11.

I'm using IE11 in Win 7&8 and have no such issue but then I'm not using the web interface but rather Live Mail. I did not have such an issue when I was using Outlook either.

Just for grins have you tried compatibility mode on the Hotmail site?

Grins is right... that would be funny. But there is no compatibility mode icon there.

Patty open it from the Outook.com link on the MSN homepage. When it opens, use the tools icon drop down arrow and select compatibility view settings. You can add it here.

I am wondering if there is a malformed email in there that may be giving you issues too????

As David said you would use the Tools menu then Compatibility View settings. When on the Hotmail site you would capture the address and paste it to the Add this website field. Select to add and see what happens. I have used this method to add CH to the list of compatibility mode sites to get the reply boxes to work properly on my systems. I have to admit that I'm not quite sure how to find this option if you do not have the old menu bar enabled.

You might also try changing the advanced internet options to use software rendering instead of GPU.

Well I tried it, and it screws up the Hotmail toolbar. Looks ugly somehow. Went back to without it. I believe I am having Ethernet card issues. And apparently only noticing on sites that have lots going on.

Since you have multiple devices is this issue on only one of them? If so that could indicate an issue with the NIC but if the issue is on all devices... ;)

No issue with phone, but that is push email. Haven't checked on Surface, but I doubt it is an issue there. I will check.
