I currently own a legitimate copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2016. Suddenly when I now open a Word document, I get an error message stating that "Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly". Also, at the very top of the Word page it says "Word (unlicensed)". I get the same error message when I try to open an Excel document. Any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance. Here is the exact wording of the error; selecting Repair Now does not resolve the issue. Attachment:

Problem has been solved, at least for now...I still don't know what caused it.
Restarting my computer didn't fix the problem, so I utilized the online Microsoft Office Repair Tool. That took a long time, even at my new 157 Mbps speed. Then right before this Tool finished, it said an error had been encountered. It suggested that I restart my computer and try again. After restarting my computer this time, the problem went away. I did not try the Tool again.
Any clue as to what cause this Office hiccup?

Glad that it seems fixed. My guess would be that a common file got corrupted.

That makes sense, Jay...thanks.
Edit: I forgot to mention. I finally got fiber optics installed out in the Arkansas boonies, and I've gone from 20 Mbps download/3 Mbps upload on DSL to 150 Mbps download/140 Mbps upload on fiber. Love this new speed.

I agree that there was likely some file corruption that was corrected by the Repair Tool. Were it to happen again, you could try reinstalling Office from the disc and doing the updates after. Glad to read that your speed has been upgraded!

Thanks for your feedback, Steve. Actually, I never had any Office disc. All I received with my purchase was a little box containing a Product Key Card. Then I had to go online to download/install Office. At my new download speed, this shouldn't take me too long to repeat this install process, if required.

The download install would even be better, assuming it contained some of the updates already in the installer. Hopefully you won't have to do that as the repair seems to have corrected it. Even at fairly high speed a reinstall is a pain!
