Anyone know how to get rid of this update. It comes up every day. I can't find anything on the HP site, Programs and features or installed apps. I also looked at processes and services but can't find anything that stands out. I could likely get rid of it by installing an HP printer package and then uninstalling but can't do that without an HP printer. At one time there was an HP printer on the system but that was 2 printers ago and many years. I'm on my second Canon since then.

Here is the update.

What happens if you select "Download & Install" for that update?

If all else fails, you could try this Microsoft tool to hide the update -

If I download and install, as I've been doing, it is just back the next day.

Thanks for the link as I've been looking for that tool but hadn't found. The tool reports that the update is now hidden but I won't know for sure until tomorrow and possibly after a reboot. The update didn't hurt anything but annoyed me. ;)

Thanks again Steve. I knew such a tool was there but couldn't find the thing. Probably just using the wrong search criteria.

I actually found references to that tool in a few results from my search, but almost all of them pointed to a dead link! Fortunately, one of the sites I ended up on had a valid link to the tool. ;-)

Ya, me too as to the dead links. All I found just went to the general Microsoft download page with nothing specific. :dunno: Again, thanks. :)

Another check for updates and, while security update wanted installed, there was nothing for HP. Looks like this is a solved issue. :)

Probably an old registry entry still in there for the long, gone HP printer triggering the update.

Hmmm, actually I never considered a registry entry and I should have done so. If I was still seeing the update I might search the registry but, since it is no longer showing, I probably won't bother. ;)

I know that you are joking Bill but I'm not keeping so much up to date as I was when I had my business. Back then I needed to be up to date on everything as best as I could. When then I could take the CPU you wanted and tell you what graphics card would match the best. I can no longer do that as it is no longer important as to my income. Now the only time I'll do any such research is if I'm building a new system for myself.

To be totally honest I don't care that much as to the best combos unless it personally affects my builds. I still work on systems but wish that it was not known in my apartments that I know a bit about computers. I mean there are people in my apartments that think I should solve all their issues just because we are neighbors and, if I mention payment, I'm just a jerk. I've taken the attitude that if you don't like it here is a shop I recommend... Shoot, once, I got cussed out due to not helping a person in the building with their cell phone. They insisted that since I knew computer I could help but just wanted to bleed then even though money wasn't mentioned. Even though it is fact that I don't even use a cell phone I was supposed to know all about them since I know a bit about computers. And God save the world if I can actually help but ask for payment for my time.

I feel this...
Thankfully, this doesn't typically happen to me any longer and the only in-person computer help I provide is to my mother-in-law. ;-)
However, this used to be a regular issue with a few people at the office for years. I still provide some email/text assistance to an old friend from work, but thankfully that has become much more infrequent over the years!

I fully understand Jay and I especially know how little I know about cell phones. Heck, the only reason I go mine was I had to have it to run my iRobot vacuum cleaner. :D
I have only one friend who gets my services for free, and he used to give me access to his woodworking shop whenever I needed it. He has retired now and has moved into a smaller home, still needs help every once in a while but we both now have spouses that require our care..
