Hi Smitty
Naturally it would be wise to image the system before doing anything.

Also, Foxit is not the only excellent replacement for Adobe anymore. Nothing like having several choices, except for the confusion. Here is the funny part about Adobe Reader. The I have the full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. It is much more responsive then the reader.

Okay, I have a question for you Foxit folks. According to the website Foxit does text searches, but can it search with an adode search index. I have Acrobat Pro on my two desktops, and the Reader on my new Lenovo.
I have a database of articles I've collected. It consists of about 19,500 2-3 page pdf files. Yep that number is correct. To do a text search without the search feature, a search would take longer then fixing and eating christmas dinner. By building a search index, with Adobe Acrobat Pro, that search takes under a minute. Acrobat Reader, can't create the index, only the full version can, but the Reader can use the Index and do the same search just as quickly.
Can Foxit use that Adobe search index?

Adobe is gone and Foxit is in. MS Office is gone and Libre is in. I've also partitioned the 1TB drive because I plan to buy another Raxco IR, probably tomorrow.

Hey, Smitty, let us know how you like Libre. Someday I will have to purchase a new pc and the thought of purchasing Office again ... OUCH.

As a quick note to Acadia, Libre is good! The last time I used it there were only a couple of issues that I saw.
1) I just didn't like the way it rendered graphs compared to Office in Excel.
2) I don't believe that there was an aspect that related to PowerPoint.
I think that you have used Libre. It used to be called Open Office. To be honest the best test would be for you to install Libre on a machine that has MS Office. That way you could open the same file in each and compare.
In my opinion, even though I haven't used in quite a while, Libre/Open Office is one of the better Open Source packages out there.

Acadia I use MS Office Home and Student 2007 on my desktop. Libre on the laptop. My use of both is very light and basic. That the two read and write .doc and .xls is good enough for me. Never used Power Point. Like Jay said...try it, maybe you'll like it. Free is good, too. (Peter and Acadia, that was me on Wilder's about fudging FDISR into Win 8)

Acadia, that's the advantage of the Office subscription. It's $100/year for a Home Premium subscription, or $70/year for a personal subscription. You always have the current version as long as your subscription is active, AND you get unlimited OneDrive storage. That's right - unlimited. I've backed up all my music and photos to it. Anyone who breaks in would merely discover what remarkable taste in music I have.

Okay, I guess no one responding to my foxit question above means no one knows.
Patty, Do you know if one can make office 2013 look like office 2010. I just put on the full office professional 2013 and it looks horrible. I wouldn't keep it on if you paid me $100 a year.
2nd. I gather from your OneDrive/music comment, the OneDrive might not be all that secure. Do you know how secure it is?

Pete, I don't use anything Adobe other than Flash so can't help on your search index question. I did do a quick search but didn't really find much info. I'm sure that you have already searched yourself. Actually IFilter for Foxit looked interesting until I saw the price... http://www.foxitsoftware.com/products/ifilter/

For light use of the Office applications, you can always use Office Web Apps -- https://office.com/start/default.aspxIt is free and simply requires you to sign in with a Microsoft Account (formerly Windows Live ID). If you ever used Outlook.com (Hotmail), you have a Microsoft Account. Of course, you must be online to use this, but it is free. -steve

Hi Steve
I don't think that would work for me. For example I use Quickbooks and it sends emails via outlook. Also I have Mappoint 2013, and use it to plot contact locations from Outlook in Mappoint.

For both of those uses, you'd probably need Outlook installed. Quickbooks might well send email via the default client, whatever that may be. Outlook.com web mail isn't a client.

Peter, as far as I know OneDrive is very secure. I just have an innate distrust of cloud storage. I expect OneDrive to be the most secure of any cloud storage out there, actually.
As far as turning Office 2013 into 2010, no comment.

As far as turning Office 2013 into 2010, no comment. I understand what you mean about cloud storage. I sort of feel the same, especially since it is client data. I am currently using JungleDisk which is a subsidiary of Rackspace and uses there facilities for storage, and I called and talked with them. I feel very comfortable with them. Also there Terms of Service are encouraging, as the only out for not standing behind their claims is if you don't use their software for encryption.

Yep, I don't store documents except those of a technical nature I might want to access when at a client's. Maybe a recipe or something like that I want to share with someone. That's all.

I've used One Drive once and didn't know I was. The manager of my apartments goes all out decorating the lobby for holidays and I take photos so she can send to the home office. This time I sent as normal and also selected all photos at once and sent as a email slide show. Apparently if you send an email slide show via Live Mail it automatically sends to One Drive.

That I don't like. I want to know what I am sending where, without having to read the fine print. That's what makes me a bit nervous about all the "cloud" stuff in Office 2013. It's good if I want to use it, but if I don't, I really don't. About to test something about 2013 OFfice vs 2010 and will report back when done. Pete
