Location: The state of confusion; I just use Wyoming for mail.
This may already be known by most but was not by me.

Missing from Windows 10 is the 'Customize' option for Notification area icons to where you can set the icons to always show, or not, as was the case with Windows 7.

The option, in fact, is still there. I have no idea what made me try this but it works. Just click the little pointed up arrow that brings up the display of the 'hidden' icons and drag them to the Notification Area. They will stay there. To be honest I find this to be a much more straight forward method than what was present in Windows 7.

For any that do not know the 'Notification Area' is the section of the Taskbar that shows icons next to the clock.

Yup, I found that out too - after thinking the functionality was missing.

Works in reverse as well. Slide the icon to the arrow then up

There's another way -- isn't there always? :-)

and then either toggle the ones you want to always be on or off, or slide the toggle to on for "Always show all icons..."
