I just installed these updates and it crashed my system. I don't know if this was specific to my system which is a little odd, or may be wide spread.
After the re-start my system just hung and stayed at the Windows 10 logo. Doing another re-start ended with the system not even making it to the Windows logo.
The solution that worked for me was to totally shut down by disconnecting power and hitting the power button a few times to totally remove any residual power. After doing this the system booted fine and went to the 'Preparing Windows' screen which ended with a total boot to Windows without issue. A follow-up re-start was successful without issue.

You are quite welcome. Again I MUST state that I don't know if this issue was specific to my system or wide spread. My media system isn't exactly quite normal... I haven't applied the updates yet to my laptop which is a bit more 'main stream'.

No issues here either. According to Krebs, beginning this month (today's updates), you won't have any choice about which updates to install or not. And you won't be able to install one troublesome update either. It will be all or nothing. So I suggest everyone get their system images in good working order prior to patch Tuesdays from here on out.

I'll offer help to anyone with questions about imaging programs, as I am familiar with most of them. Just post questions in the advanced forum

Won't the bad update just install again after an image is done. Also I was able to hide today's updates.

One way to stop it is to turn off your internet connection until you get a chance to deal with it.

OK, they must not have pulled that switch yet. Yes, it would install again. I was thinking about a scenario where an update left your machine unbootable and then you would have to do something to keep it from installing again. You normally would have until that night until it tries to install again.

You can also help things by setting Updates to notify with the WinAero Tweaker. http://jaylach.com/downloads/Windows-10-Tweaker.zipIt is still pretty much all or nothing but if so set it will prompt to start downloading. At least it would not automatically re-install a problematic update. Of course there IS a downside. When set to Notify it means it. For instance you even have to OK the download for updates for Defender such as definitions.

Did my updates yesterday on my Notebook when I shut down, booting up this morning it did the finishing off and there have been no problems. I've just been to my desktop and clicked on the restart option so we'll see. I know Johns Laptop was OK, not sure about his desktop, although I've not heard any complaints from him so things must be OK.

I guess it sounds like it was a specific issue with my system.

However, my tablet running the latest Fast Ring Insider preview isn't happy with the latest build installed the other day. The tablet is supposed to be asleep while docked about 23 out of 24 hours each day. It is doing that, but it also appears to be waking and crashing down hard a few times within each 24 hours. I haven't been able to determine what's waking it and why it crashes hard. I'm hoping that a new build will fix it, otherwise I'll be rolling back or doing a clean install one day in the not too distant future. -steve

@Jay - I didn't have any updates for 10/11/16, but I did have six for 10/12/16, all of which installed without incident. Maybe they are the same ones you are talking about but I didn't get my notification until a day later.
Of my six updates, only two dealt directly with Windows (KB3194798 and KB890830). Then one dealt with Adobe Flash Player and the remaining three with the old Microsoft Office 2007 that I still use. Do any of these sound like the ones that crashed your system?

All except for the Office 2007 ones. Since I run Office 365 I would not see your Office updates. Actually my issue MAY not even have involved Updates even though it happened on a re-start after installing them. I have a rather odd situation going on since the Win 10 Anniversary upgrade. One of my 'big' games, an RPG named Diablo III, will no longer launch. It will try to but will literally shut down the system. Hitting the power button will not bring it back up. I have to disconnect the power (turn off the supply in my case as it does have an on/off switch.) to get it to boot again. Waiting to see if a game patch comes out. LOL! Good thing I've already finished the game or I'd be a bit ticked. I don't see how it could be the same issue as the game was not involved in the scenario. Still, who knows. This seems to be a common issue with the game and the Anniversary upgrade. Most responses list old video drivers, too high of a graphics setting or an insufficient power supply. I have the latest drivers for my video and it worked fine before the Windows upgrade so I can't see it being the power supply or the game graphics settings although I DID go into the initialization file for the game and lowered the graphics by three levels. Even though the game worked fine before the Windows upgrade I still sort of have to wonder if it could not be the power supply. My supply is only 650 watt. My AMD Sapphire R9 4 GB 380 series Nitro video card requires that only a 500 watt power supply be installed. Still I also have 3 internal drives and a TV tuner installed. I could, possibly, be on the threshold of its limits. If the Anniversary upgrade did anything that could put more demand on the power supply it could have tipped me over the edge. Yes, the upgrade could put more of a draw on the power supply if it made changes to video handling. I'm thinking about possibly picking up an 800-1000 watt supply to see what happens. If not for the fact that I'm gradually upgrading my main system I would not bother but replacing the power supply would not be a waste as the old would go in the eventual system that will replace the ancient OptiPlex system I'm using for media in my bedroom.

@ Jay - When I ordered my new Velocity computer back in January, you recommended that I increase my power supply. So I did.....to 750 watts. And I certainly don't drive the audio/video equipment that you do, so my power supply should be sufficient even for my new GPS when it is connected (and my GPS is still running OK).
@chasbox (or anyone) - How were you able to hide the updates.....I forgot the steps involved? And is that temporary or permanent?

Thanks chasbox. I had actually downloaded that troubleshooter a few months ago and used it to hide some HP printer driver updates. But I forgot about doing that, and then I forgot the steps I had followed. The old mind just ain't what it use to be.
