YW. If you want to test. Go to Control Panel then Click Action Center then
Click Security Then click on View installed antispyware programs
A box will pop-up

Alternatively, when you have Defender open, click on the gear for tools and that will get you to the options to disable Defender.
However, the fact that Windows Defender is active suggests Kaspersky is not properly installed. Defender should disable itself when another compatible antivirus program registers as the security provider.

Sorry for not sending a reply earlier Steve but I was in California most of the week. I managed to disable defender and Kaspersky is back to normal.
All of the updates are installed now except one which is "Cumulative Security Update for IE11 for Windows 7 forx64 based Systems (KB3175443)
When I install that, it causes my chat program to quit. So far it has not affected how Kaspersky functions even though it not installed but that has only been about 30 minutes ago since I removed it. If I hide it, will Kaspersky be unable to find it?

I can't tell you what Kaspersky "sees" regarding updates installed, pending, or hidden.
However, you should pursue this with the developer of the chat program as you really should install that IE security update eventually. IE security updates are delivered to resolve security issues and without them installed, there is increased risk.
