Win 7 Pro.

Today a 'recommended' update: 2017-08 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64 based system. 194.3 MB.
Another 'optional' update: NVIDIA-display. 313.3MB
It seems like every month MS comes out with these hugh updates.
Lately, I've been hiding the 'optional' updates and installing the others.
Would someone care to comment on why these things are so big?
And is a 'Rollup' an accumulation of previous small updates that have already been installed?

The second Tuesday of each month is the normal time for Windows Updates.

The 313.3 MB update for NVidia is, of course, for your video card. This is new drivers and possibly software updates. In all honesty the size is not all that large.

The 194.3 Rollup updates deal directly with Windows and include security fixes. It looks large but there is really no way to say that it really is as in includes multiple updates in one package.

If you are having no issues at all with your video it is probably OK to hide the NVidia update but I would absolutely install the Rollup but I might wait a few days to be sure that no issues come up with the Rollup.

The Rollup MAY contain modifications to previous updates but is normally new stuff.

You are quite welcome. :) I just did roll-up updates on my laptop which has both Windows 7 and 10. I saw no issues.
