I have a friend who has Win XP home but he has no Win XP disc.
For my old PC, I have a Windows XP Home OEM disc and a 25 character license number.
Can my disc, with his 25 character license number, be used on his PC in the event of a major component is replaced, a repair or even a clean reinstall?

Not without violating the terms of the license agreement.

Since you are using *his* license key, it may be okay. However, the OEM disc that you have may refuse to function on his computer despite the license key if it is a different brand of computer. The best solution is to obtain a disc from the manufacturer of his computer to replace the missing disc. That path removes all potential license and technical concerns. -steve

Sorry... I missed that you were using his key. It is going to be a question as to whether the disk will allow that or not. It might. You really won't know until you try it.

Best bet, in my humble opinion, is to make a system image. If something happens just restore the image.
