I tried to play a video today in Windows 7 Pro and for some reason it will not play any of my WMV videos. I am able to play AVI, MPG, and MP4. This problem seems to have come up after installing Windows Virtual PC2007 although I am not certain of that. I ran troubleshooting for the media player and it said Configuration Settings may be incorrect but under details, it says that no issues were found. This same problem now exists when using the Virtual PC

I can add more to this tonight. If I convert the WMV videos that wont play to MP4 or MPG, they play ok.

Still more to add. The WMV videos will open ok in Windows Movie Maker. Also, it seems to be treating these WMV videos that are on my computer as "Downloads". When I try to open a WMV, I get the pop up box you see below. Clicking on open does nothing.

You have to change the file association for WMV files to be the player of your choosing and make Play be the default action for the file type.
From your image I can see that the wmv association is IE -- note the overlayed IE icon on the previews...

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you..........It works now in Windows 7 Pro as well as Windows XP Pro Virtual. No luck with Windows 98 SE yet but feel sure that is a Codec problem.....they also advise that I upgrade to Windows Media Player 9 so will see if I can hunt that down.

I found it on the old version web site, installed it, and it works. :multi8:
