I want to install a backup system on my new Asus computer, so I'm trying to decide which product. I currently run Macrium Reflect Home 6 and Acronis True Image 2017 on my old Velocity computer. But I only want one system on my new computer.
I would probably go with Acronis 2022, but it appears to now be subscription-based, which I don't like. Amazon does sell the 2021 version for around $69, which I guess is the last perpetual license version.
Macrium Reflect Home 8 has perpetual license version for about the same price of $69.
Any thoughts/recommendations for these newer versions would be appreciated.

I have Acronis, BUT I don't have it installed. I install it to make the bootable media and then uninstall it. I use the bootable USB stick to make my images from outside of Windows. The new version of Acronis has so many things that run automatically that I don't want or need.

I do as does David with Acronis. I tried Macrium once years ago but just didn't like. Can't even remember what I didn't like but there was something...
I think I'm using Acronis 2019.

If I prepared a System Repair Disk on my Velocity computer running Win 10 Pro, wouldn't this Repair Disk also work on my Asus computer running Win 10 Home?

OK, I will create another Repair Disk on the Asus. Thanks for the heads-up.

It is a fine line as the things ends up not actually installed on any system but is still used on multiple systems. I wouldn't worry about it. Oh, when you make the boot media you will have options. I prefer the Linux version.

Mine is the latest one, never tried Macrium. Years ago I used Drive Image at Home and Ghost at work. I do a weekly system image using the built-in Windows one and the Acronis every once and a while. The system repair disk is just a bootable disk that lets you run the utilities to get your drive back up and running should something happen.
I use the Linux boot version also.

I don't recall seeing the option for a Linux boot media.

I think there is an advanced options on the boot media creator page.

All I recall seeing were the options for a System Image and a Repair Disk, with no mention of Linux.

You would see the media options after clicking Repair Disk.

Here are my recommendations for your backup software on the new Asus computer:
- Go with Macrium Reflect Home 8. It's a reliable backup solution with a perpetual license, so you pay once and own the software forever. The price is reasonable at around $69. - Avoid Acronis True Image 2022 since it's now subscription-based. You're correct that the 2021 version is the last perpetual license version, but it will likely still be fully functional for your needs. However, Macrium Reflect will likely receive updates and support for longer. - Gs Richcopy360 - Richcopy 360 is another option with a perpetual license. It has more advanced features than Macrium and can backup to external drives, network locations, and the cloud. The price is around $69 for the Standard edition. - SyncThing - An alternative that allows you to sync and backup files across devices over a network. While it's more limited than dedicated backup software, it could work well for simple file backups.
Between Macrium and Gs Richcopy and SyncThing some factors to consider: - Macrium: Simpler, easier-to-use interface. Focused only on backups. - Gs Richcopy360: More advanced features. Cloud backup support. File synchronization. Offers cloning and migration in addition to backups. - SyncThing: Simple file syncing and backup, best for backing up specific folders Requires manual configuration and management Once configured, Syncthing runs in the system tray and syncs files in the background without requiring user input. You have control over settings like folder structure, file filters, bandwidth limits, and more.

@Knever - thanks for the detailed input. I currently use Acronis on my primary computer, and Macrium on my backup computer. I agree that Macrium is easier to use.
