I am now running a network between a desktop system running Win 7 and a laptop dual booting between Win 7&8. I started to put this in the Home Networking forum but since one of the systems is a dual boot......
On the laptop ALL credentials are exactly the same in both Win 7&8, computer name, password, everything. Both sides of the dual boot also use the exact same data partition. Both sides of the boot also share a common Outlook PST file on the data partition. Each OS is also pretty much totally isolated from each other. If I boot to Win 8 the Win 7 partition is not even seen and vies-a-versa the other way around as I have removed the drive letter for each opposing OS in Drive Management.
OK, enough system info and background.
Until recently I was running Win 7 as the default boot on the laptop. I have now changed to Win 8 being the default. Of course this meant that I needed to add the Win 8 boot to my network. Since I wanted the exact same setup, just a different boot OS, all I did was to join the existing network to the desktop by putting in the password. Since I can only boot to one OS at a time on the laptop I can't see any issue but networking is definitely not my forte.
My actual question is if what I have done could potentially cause any issues. Remember that the only thing shared from the laptop in either OS is the data partition and card reader.
