Hiya All,
Am looking for software or even a firmware mod for a router that will allow us to limit the download size of files for users connected to our wireless public (hotspot?) network.
I have looked on Google but they all seem to (as i understand it) limit the download speed using QOS, what i want is something that will allow full speed access but prevent them from downloading huge movie files.
I have looked at DD-WRT which seems to be the favorite but its a bit confusing in what it can actually do and i and other ppl cant seem to find a definitive answer on whether the paid or free version can limit file download size.
any brilliant idea's ?

This would be possible, perhaps, by setting up a full fledged proxy server to handle your traffic. I've never heard of any router having this capability. -steve

I have an idea. Send an email to the DD-WRT folks and ask them.

OK. Next brilliant idea. Download the program in question, the free one and see if it does what you want.

hiya, Yep thought of that but have to buy a new router at around $100.00 to test it, dd-wrt re-programs the firmware in the router. tis cool, Sboots was right the only way to do it is with a proxy server such as Squid, hoped not to have to go to that expense but seems no other option.. Rgds Syb

Very interesting, I'm almost tempted to download the software and throw it on one of the linksys wireless points i've got here to see how it works.
With some of the higher end drayteks you can have multiple wireless SSID's and can isolate them from each other so could have a main wireless SSID you use for your lan and then a guest wireless which is isolated from that which gives you nothing but external internet access.
