Win 7/ HP OJ 8500 reinstall

The error details after the second failure which was sent to HP was not saved on my desktop.
The instructions they left behind didn't work after three or four tries.
My printer isn't being recognized by USB connection, which was NOT the original error.

The error was about a million hit/lines/folders (???) of an old HP 4500 - I don't know if it's a driver. What else would conflict or confuse the printer so that the software/drivers could not install? That printer is not in Programs, so I can't uninstall it.

The "solution" was for USB installation. So, it looks like the printer was installed because the missing features are now in Programs. After the install there was no initial settings or test to perform. Don't you do that? I might be confused. (Yeah, it's 1am - anything is possible.)

I am still trying to achieve the result that I didn't have yesterday - to print from desktop (Solution Center) or from computer. From computer, when I open Print, nothing happens. No errors.
