My wife opened a Word document and "ch" was deleted from every word that previously was spelled with it. Any thought? She wants to finish this document so she can deliver it. She is at present going through some 15 pages and adding "ch" to words like urch and sool.

While I have never seen anything such as this I have a possible thought... Have you ever been upset by this site and possibly denied 'CH' from your personal dictionary seeing 'CH as the short for Computer Haven? In any case I would think that it would be a simple matter of opening Word as a blank document and just typing ch. Hoghlight the term ch and right click and 'add to dictionary'. I don't really understand why the term 'ch' is being refused but would think that adding the 'ch' to the accepeted dictionary list would solve the issue. I hope that this helps. BTW, Nice to see you here again. Stop in more often!

The letters were removed before the document was opened. You can take forever and add the missing letters back to the part words that remain and they do not seem to disappear again. Nothing about not allowing ch that I an think of. Think about this one: ur and tell me what the word that had been there for the past months while my wife was working on this project was.
This is my wife's computer and I have very little to do with it except to keep it going. I did upgrade it to Office 2016 a few months back. However, the project has been in processing, both before and after the upgrade without this anomaly.
Hope all is well with you

Of course there is the possibility that you could have gone to the properties of the file/folder and simply selected the option for 'previous versions'. You would have quite likely found a backup copy of the file that was intact.

That is odd. Do you have system restore disabled or restricted? Previous Versions come from restore points and/or File History. If the data is on a different drive/partition than the system drive you would likely need to enable.

I've never seen a similar problem, Bill. It's really an odd one. It would seem that a Search and Replace All of "ch" with [nothing] was executed. That would involve more than a few clicks and keystrokes. I can't imagine malware would cause such a thing. -steve

My thoughts as well Steve.
Just makes no sense to me....and no way to fix the document easily.
