I am currently using Oracle VM VirtualBox to run Windows XP in virtual mode on my Windows 10 computer (Jay helped me set this up a couple of years ago).

Now I am trying to set up a Foscam IP security camera. To do so, I must disable the virtual network drivers, and I don't know how to do this. I just don't know where the drivers are located. Any disabling needs to be temporary, because I certainly don't want to mess up my virtual machine. Thanks in advance.....

Within the VM go to Device Manager then the properties for the virtual network. Under the Driver tab select to disable the device. Just go back and enable when you want.

Hey... Are you trying to install the camera to the VM or the host system? If the host just shut down the VM until done.

Jay, I'm trying to install the camera on my Win 10 host. I can't remember how to shut down the VM, and I sure don't want to mess things up.

And if I go to device manager in the Win XP VM, I don't see the virtual network nor its properties.

Jay, ok in the Win XP VM device manager, I did find Virtual Box Device under System Devices. I can disable the Virtual Box Device. Is that where you were talking about?

Should be able to shut down the VM by just shutting down Windows XP like you would do on a physical system.

David, Windows XP stays shut down most of the time...I start it maybe twice a week to get to my calendar and address book programs. But I wasn't sure that would disable the VM network drivers.

If the VM is shut down the drivers should not be active. Be careful that you actually shut down the VM as I believe the default is either sleep or hibernate. The next launch of the VM will be slower but you will be sure that it is down.

Also check to be sure that the virtual network drivers do not show in the host system. If they do disable as I outlined before. I can't remember if you are running a true VM or XP Mode. If XP Mode it may be possible that some virtual drivers are actually on the host system. Since you are using VirtualBox I assume a straight VM but it is always best to cover bases.

Jay, I am running a true VM. I use to run XP Mode on my Win 7 computer, but best I remember XP Mode is not supported in Win 10. That's why you helped me use Oracle VM VirtualBox to run Windows XP in virtual mode.

But back to disabling the device. In the Win XP VM device manager, I did find Virtual Box Device under System Devices, and I can disable this Virtual Box Device. Is that where you were talking about?

Yes that sounds like what I meant but I think it would be easier to just total shut down the XP VM. Still DO check the Device Manager on the host system to be sure that the virtual network is not also on the host. If you do see the virtual network in Device Manager' on the host just disable as stated in a previous post.
