I use IE 11 on my Win 10 computer. I typically have 2 or 3 tabs showing on a separate row below the address bar. If/when I open a new tab, I like for it to open on the same page as the other tabs, next to the current tab(s).

But often times a new tab will open on a new page, so I end up with two occurrences of the IE icon on my lower task bar. So to then get to my newest tab, I must click on the newest IE icon.

On the Internet Options of IE, I have adjusted the Tabbed Browser Settings different ways and I still can't prevent a new tab from opening on a new page. Attached is a screen shot of my current settings. Hopefully someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance....

Your settings look fine.

Is this specific to certain sites? The reason that I ask is that it is possible to code a link to force a new window instead of a new tab. Of course this assumes that you are right clicking on a link and selecting to open in a new tab. I have seen this happen but can't say that it has ever been other than my clicking on new window instead of new tab by mistake.

I suspect you need to change the option of how to handle pop-ups to the 3rd selection -- always a new tab, rather than let IE decide. That is if the behavior is happening when you click a link on a page, expecting a new tab to open, but a new browser window opens instead.

Good catch Steve, I totally missed that. LOL! Not sure that I would have caught even if I did notice... ;)

Thanks guys….I will make the change that Steve suggested. And no, I can't say that this issue is specific to certain sites, but I probably have not paid that much attention.
