I have $60 "over the ear" Sennheiser headphones (HD202) that to me sound very nice with satisfactory "base."
I also have $16 "on the ear" Sony headphones MDR-ZX110) which don't have as much "base" but are satisfactory and these I use while listening to my collection of MP3's while riding a bicycle...external noise not a problem.
I see that "in the ear" ear buds go for anywhere from $2 to several hundred dollars.
Do you think there are any ear buds that would be superior (low noise and a nice base) to the headphones I have?
(Motor vehicles aren't allowed where I bike ride)

Sorry but I can't be much help as I can't use buds. They hurt my ears. I'm sure that someone will chime in with advice.

As a thought you should probably check out http://newegg.com and http://tigerdirect.com . Check out what they have and check customer reviews. Be more concerned with 1 and 2 star reviews as they will indicate issues.

Sorry I can't help either as I don't use them, well only on the odd occasion with a CD player and they are in ear ones.

I do have some and most are the in ear type with different sized buds and it depends on the size and material how comfortable they are plus whether they actually stay in the ear, there are ones that slip out too easily.

The only over the ear ones I have are ones that came with a microphone attached to use with the computer.

I got a set with my iPhone that I've not even taken out of the case yet, they are the in ear type, they have a different shape again and I have no idea how comfortable they are.

I've not paid much for any that I have so don't know if the more you pay the better they are.
